WHY SHOULD YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF THE NWGA?

THE ROLE OF THE NWGA IN SERVING COMMERCIAL AND COMMUNAL FARMERS

Production advisory services
Through its national network of advisors, the NWGA provides hands-on support to wool producers to improve production standards, wool quality, and farm profitability. This practical engagement, combined with its lobbying efforts and educational outreach, ensures that producers have the tools and representation they need to thrive.

A reliable network
Choosing the NWGA means joining a connected and influential network that extends across government, industry bodies, and international markets. This network is not only a platform for lobbying and policy engagement, but also a resource for knowledge sharing, technical advice, and collaborative growth.

Member-specific benefits
As part of its ongoing commitment to securing tangible benefits for its members, the NWGA successfully negotiated a substantial reduction in premium rates for livestock disaster insurance with Hollard Insurance. This coverage protects against losses resulting from natural disasters such as cold, fire, hail, and lightning. All NWGA members who choose to subscribe to Hollard Insurance, qualify for this valuable benefit, reinforcing the organisation’s role in safeguarding the financial security and
resilience of South African wool producers.

With its unmatched experience, robust training programmes, strategic influence, and deep commitment to the development of all wool producers – commercial and communal alike – the NWGA is the credible, professional, and effective choice for those invested in the future of the South African wool industry.

STRATEGIC INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP

The NWGA plays a pivotal role in shaping national policy and legislation on issues affecting wool producers. It serves as the voice of the wool farmer on various platforms, including:

  • Agri South Africa
  • Predation Management South Africa (PMSA) – chaired by the NWGA, PMSA coordinates efforts across the livestock and wildlife sectors to implement ecologically responsible predation management strategies, supported by expert-led training for farmers and workers.
  • Livestock Value Chain Round Table (VCRT) – The NWGA works closely with the National Department of Agriculture and other stakeholders to address animal disease control, biosecurity, livestock production, and export regulations.
  • Stock Theft Forum
  • Livestock Welfare Coordinating Committee (LWCC) – NWGA represents wool producers in key discussions and decisions related to livestock theft prevention, animal welfare, sustainable farming practices, and husbandry standards.
